Duo of Iran films shine at China festival

Two Iranian films, ‘The Salesman’ and ‘Starless Dreams’, have brought home awards from the Silk Road International Film Festival (SRIFF) in China.

Asghar Farhadi’s blockbuster ‘The Salesman’ won the best foreign film award and ‘Starless Dreams’ directed by Mehrdad Oskui grabbed the best documentary award at the Chinese event.

‘The Salesman’ tells the story of a young couple named Emad (Shahab Hosseini) and Rana (Taraneh Alidoosti) who move into a new flat in the center of Tehran. But an incident linked to the previous tenant dramatically changes their life.

‘Starless Dreams’ follows a group of under-18-year-old girls taken into a rehabilitation and detention center on the outskirts of Tehran for a variety of reasons ranging from drug dealing and trafficking to pick-pocketing and manslaughter.

Though bored with their incarcerated life, nevertheless, they are scared about what might happen to them once outside; as the New Year approaches, they all hope to celebrate it with their families.

SRIFF is China's first film festival named after the Silk Road.
